Can You Lose Weight With Cayenne Pepper Pills?

In a 2003 study published in the “British Journal of Nutrition,” participants were given an isolated form of capsaicin rather than fresh peppers, so they were not able to taste it. Capsaicin is the active compound responsible for metabolism boosting and appetite suppression, and also for giving all hot peppers — not just cayenne — their pungent flavor. For three months, participants given 135 grams of capsaicin daily experienced more fat oxidation than participants given placebos. In other words, more body fat was broken down and used as energy. These results suggest that cayenne capsules may be useful for weight management.
